Welcoming Speech from Mr. Lau Kong-wah, Secretary for Home Affairs

On behalf of the Home Affairs Bureau, I take great pleasure in attending the Asia and Pacific Jump Rope Championship 2017, organised by the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Federation, which is the first ever-continental competition for jump rope staged in Hong Kong. Taking this opportunity, I would like to extend the warmest welcome to all the overseas teams and wish all the athletes a successful event in Hong Kong.

Set up in 2012, the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Federation has put in great effort to promote and develop the sport of jump rope in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region. I am confident the hosting of this event would definitely help raising the skill level of Hong Kong athletes and provide a very good opportunity for the participating teams to share their experience in promoting and developing the sport of jump rope.

Jump rope is a popular activity among young children. It is simple, yet can be enjoyed by people of all ages at any place, any time. Being a member of the sports community, I congratulate the Federation for successfully developing the sports of jump rope a popular sport among Hong Kong school students and youths. And also bringing this sport to a high competitive environment, allowing local athletes to compete in the world stage.

I also congratulate the Asia and Pacific Jump Rope Federation and World Jump Rope Federation in promoting the sport of jump rope to an international level through hosting several mega events every year, attracting athletes all over the world to compete. I look forward to seeing the sport of jump rope escalates to a higher level and becomes a world event.

I wish all the competitors all the success in the championship and an enjoyable stay in Hong Kong.
